The DPP program protects the device (Chromebook, Macbook, or iPad) loaned to your student against accidental damage for the school year. This program does NOT cover damage resulting from misuse or loss of the device.  We expect all students to properly use their device and to secure it when it is not being used.  If the device is used improperly or is not secured while the student is not using it, families will be expected to pay the full cost of replacement or repair.

DPP only applies for damages to device and not for missing/stolen device. 

The standard payment to enroll in the NSD Student Device Protection Plan is $25 per year; free for students who have qualified for free or reduced-price meals and who have provided consent to share their status for fee waivers. No refunds will be given once enrolled in this program.  If the assigned device is accidentally damaged, families will be charged according to the following deductible schedule:

•  1st Incident; $0
•  2nd Incident; 50% reduction of cost of repair
•  3rd Incident; Full cost of repair

The pricing for damage reflects an average standardized price to replace the components and does not reflect taxes or labor charged.

Cost to replace a fully damaged or lost student's chrome book is 500$. This cost includes the carrying case and charger. 

Enrollment in DPP must occur before damage occurs for DPP to apply.  If there is no DPP on file for a student when damage occurs and the fine is assessed, the full repair cost will be charged.  Fines for damaged devices will be applied promptly and can be paid in our online payment system. We cannot take replacement items such as power cables that were purchased on Amazon or at a retail store, as use of those items may cause safety issues or void warranties. 

• If a student device is missing please inform the School Technology Specialist (STS) and school admin team using Student Support Ticketing System.
• If the student device is stolen, file an online police report to the county Sheriff’s office and obtain a case number and/or copy of the report.  Further, please notify the incident to the school by using Student Support Ticketing System and attach a copy of the police report.

In rare cases, a fine can be waived with approval from District Technology Staff.  If you want to apply for a fine waiver for a fine that has already been assessed, please complete this form.

Excused Absence

Parents or students who anticipate being out of school for five or more consecutive days should submit the Notice of Pre-Arranged Extended Absence Form. This form must be turned in to the school 2 weeks prior to the planned absence. The form must be reviewed and signed by the principal.

Out Of Country Student Access

Parents or students who anticipate being out of the country for five or more consecutive days and require access to the student's account can follow the below steps:

• Fill out the Notice of Pre-Arranged Extended Absence Form. Submit the form to the school 2 weeks prior to the planned travel date. After review, the school will provide you a copy of the form signed by the principal.
• Create a technology work ticket for out-of-country travel using Student Support Ticketing System.
• Add all the necessary details in the ticket and also attach the notice of pre-arranged extended absence form (signed by the principal).
• Technology support will reach out via the ticket with instructions on next steps for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) set up.
• Regardless of completing all the above steps, there is a slight chance that students can experience difficulties in accessing certain applications internationally. This varies based on the country and the settings of the internet provider.

Clever, Schoology, and Seesaw

Students will log in to Clever at https://my.nsd.org.

Student accounts follow this pattern: the username is their email address and their password is the password they ended last school year with or the default (for new students).  Student accounts use the student’s ID number.  If you do not know your student’s ID number, please look at their information in ParentVUE.

NSD 1:1 - Student Devices

Students in Grades K and 1 have access to iPads in their classroom. 

Students in grades 2-5 are assigned district Chromebooks, charging cables, and protective cases. They should bring them to school daily in protective cases and charge them at home each evening.

Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook they have been issued by the school district.  Students with Chromebooks that are broken or fail to work properly must contact the School Technology Specialist as soon as possible so that they can be taken care of properly.  If students need help over the summer, Parents/Guardians can put in a support request at http://go.nsd.org/studenttechhelp. 

District-owned Chromebooks should never be taken to an outside computer service for any type of repairs or maintenance.  Students should never leave their Chromebooks unattended.

General Precautions

• No food or drink should be next to Chromebooks.
• Cords, cables, and removable storage devices (e.g. thumb drives) must be inserted carefully into appropriate ports on the Chromebooks.
• Chromebooks should not be used or stored near pets.
• Chromebooks should not be used with the power cord plugged in when the cord may be a tripping hazard.
• Chromebooks must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, and labels. 
• Heavy objects should never be placed on top of Chromebooks.
• Chromebooks should never be loaned to another student or individual during the school day or otherwise.

Carrying the Chromebook

• Always transport Chromebooks with care.  Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action or a fine for damages.
• Students should hold the Chromebooks (cover closed) with two hands if they need to carry the Chromebook anywhere inside or outside of the classroom during instructional time.
• Never lift a Chromebook by the screen.
• Never carry a Chromebook with the screen open.

 Opening the Chromebook

• Open the Chromebook only when it is resting on a flat surface such as a table or desk.
• To open the Chromebook, use one hand to hold the keyboard against the table.  Use the other hand to open the screen by grasping the screen’s edge (in the middle) and gently moving the screen to the open position.
• The hinge of the screen on some models will only allow the screen to be open to a slight angle.  Do not attempt to open the screen beyond this stopping point as the screen will break if forced.

Closing the Chromebook

• Before closing the screen, make sure there is nothing on the keyboard to prevent the full closure of the device. Obstacles on the keyboard could cause broken screens or damaged hinges.  Charges will be levied for improper care that leads to broken hinges and screens.
• Close the screen only when the Chromebook is resting on a flat surface such as a table or desk.
• Close the Chromebook using two hands–one at either corner of the screen (Figure 2. Closing a Chromebook.)
• Close the screen gently.

Screen Care

The Chromebook screen can be damaged if subjected to heavy objects, rough treatment, some cleaning solvents, and other liquids.  The screens are particularly sensitive to damage from excessive pressure.

• Do not put pressure on the top of a Chromebook when it is closed.  Charges will be levied for improper care that leads to broken hinges and screens.
• Do not store a Chromebook with the screen open.
• Do not place anything in the protective case that will press against the cover.
• Make sure there is nothing on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, or disks).
• Never lift the Chromebook by the screen.
• Only clean the screen with a soft, dry microfiber cloth or anti-static cloth.

Asset Tags

• All Chromebooks will be labeled with a Northshore School District asset tag.
• Asset tags may not be modified or tampered with in any way.
• Students may be charged up to the full replacement cost of a Chromebook for tampering with a Northshore School District asset tag or turning in a Chromebook without a Northshore School District asset tag.
