From Principal Bailey
Arrowhead families,
Wow. June. It’s here, and the final weeks are before us. I am never prepared for the flash flood of emotions, events and departures that the end of a school year brings.
Today we host our very first Grad Walk – a new tradition for us. How exciting to see former Hawks in their college swag or graduation robes, so grown up in our small elementary classrooms. I hope our students are inspired by the big kids, who have finished one leg of their journey into adulthood and begin the next.
Tomorrow is our Carnival! It’s the biggest event of our year and never ceases to amaze me. I still remember how I felt my first year at Arrowhead – not quite sure what this Carnival was all about – when I stepped out of my office that afternoon and right into the 13’ legs of a performer on stilts. The music, the games, the energy, the big kids who return to participate and volunteer – it is every bit as wonderful as the closing celebration in Grease, my childhood standard for school carnivals.
We can do these wonderful things because of our parent and family volunteers. We have clay docents, art docents, library volunteers, field trip chaperones, fifth grade camp chaperones, class party volunteers, people who donate their money for fundraisers, people who hand out otter pops at Hawk Walk, Field Day volunteers, volunteers who help put on our Identity Night and Art Night and Stem Night and our Dances. We have parents who serve on our PTA exec team to ensure there is an organized body of parents who keep everything funded, on the calendar, and supported with volunteer sign-ups. It takes a lot to provide the kind of experience we want to have here at Arrowhead. I want to thank each of you who stepped up and gave your time, energy, creativity and money to support our school this year. You make such a huge difference in how joyful Arrowhead is and how much our children learn. We love you and appreciate you.
Enjoy these long, sunny days my Arrowhead family. Enjoy the summer months. Rest, read, and think about how you want to contribute your talents and time to our little school next year. We are very blessed to be part of all this.
Our Lost & Found Rack is Overflowing
Please check the Lost & Found rack next time you are on campus and remind your students to check the rack for their belongings. The Lost & Found rack will be by the Office during Carnival for families to claim their items.
All items left behind will be donated to Threads & Treads on June 23.
Is your child not returning to Arrowhead?
If your child(ren) will not be returning to Arrowhead for the 25-26 school year, please reach out to Ms. Brennan, bsias@nsd.org or 425.408.4003 and let her know your plans.
Books, Bikes and Baubles Winners
Kids were reading like crazy in May filling out their bingo cards! Thank you for supporting your children in reading for at least 30 minutes a day!
The drawing was held Monday, June 2 and the winners are Athena R. and Zoe V. for the bikes donated by the Ashler Lodge of Bothell! The bikes come with a coupon for a free bike helmet as well. Congratulations!
If your child has turned in a bingo card but did not get their prize, please encourage them to come by the library before school to claim their prize(s)!
Thank you and please turn in all of your Library books!
Ms. Ginny
On May 22, Coach Barstow and Coach Ginny concluded a very successful Track and Field season with a celebration in the library including certificates, a slideshow, and treats! 62 student athletes participated this year in running events (400m, 200m, 100m, 50m, and 400m relay) and field events (Triple Jump, High Jump, Long Jump, Ball Kick and Ball Throw)
Arrowhead placed FIRST in our Junior Olympics meet at Inglemoor High School against six other schools (Kenmore, Lockwood, Maywood Hill, Moorlands, Shelton View, Westhill). What a tremendous achievement for our amazing team of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! We saw many excellent examples of great sportsmanship– students stepping up to do an event that was not one of their top choices, but knowing it would benefit the team, students persevering and supporting other students at the meets, students congratulating athletes from other teams. These moments make us particularly proud.
We also had some amazing finishes in the JOs!

Our practices took place during lunch recess twice a week starting in late April. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 can participate each spring in Track and Field. (In the fall, Cross Country is an option!)
Many thanks to our parent volunteers who helped make our home meet a success, and Principal Bailey who stepped up to run the Ball Kick event at the JOs. We even had former Arrowhead students helping out! See you next season!

Ms. Bowker's Class Creates Certified Schoolyard Habitat
National Wildlife Federation (NWF), America’s largest wildlife conservation and education organization, is pleased to recognize that the Third Graders of room 604 at Arrowhead Elementary have successfully created a Certified Schoolyard Habitat® through its Garden for Wildlife® program. Arrowhead has a thriving wildlife habitat that provides essential elements all wildlife need: natural food sources, clean water, cover, and places to raise young. The habitat also serves as an outdoor classroom where students can engage in cross-curricular learning in a hands-on way.

Arrowhead Staff Retiring
Amanda Bowker
I started teaching at Arrowhead in Sept. 1994, just after it was remodeled, and have been here ever since! I started in third grade, then jumped around to teach first and second. Next, I was a science specialist for a few years. I moved into kindergarten for 6 or so years, then finally moved back to third grade. I have now taught the children of former students as well as worked with former students!
There are so many things I will miss about Arrowhead and teaching - the dedicated, amazing staff, the fun and involved community. More than anything, I’ll miss those moments in the classroom when the students are abuzz with energy, fully engaged and excited about learning something that truly inspires them.
To pass the time, I’m going to travel, read, hang out with friends, bake, read, hike and read some more! I'll also get to spend more time with my mom on the East Coast.
Becky Fukuda
I've been at Arrowhead for 19 years and during that time I have held many positions: Substitute, School Assistant, 1:1, Contained Classroom Assistant, Mid-Level Blended K-6 Assistant, K-5 Learning Center Assistant, and finally Dean of Students. Before my time with the district I was an Attorney and then Associate Director for a social justice educational non-profit.
I have soooo many memories and stories from my time here. They all revolve around students who overcame something scary or hard or frustrating or sad. It is the resiliency and courage and humor of these students that I will always remember and will miss.
In my retirement I am planning on getting back into my art (ceramics) , exercising more with Junie and exploring more of our National Parks.
Kate Spalding
I started at Arrowhead in September, 2022. I've been a 1:1 para. My favorite memories are:
- Playing Marimba with coworkers
- The Pirate musicals
- Singing contests
- My kiddo greeting people on the way to the bus with "Hey Hoes".
- Joy, laughter, kids and coworkers
I will miss the day to day chaos and community.
I'm looking forward to subbing here when I feel like it!
Yearbooks Available
We have a limited quantity of 24-25 yearbooks available to purchase for $20. Students who purchased a yearbook will receive their yearbook on June 16.

2nd Grade Butterflies
Mrs. Howe's and Mrs. O'Connor's classes just finished their butterfly life cycle unit, releasing their butterflies they'd studied and cared for since they began as larvae in early May.
Activities in the butterfly life cycle included students observing, reading, learning, writing about butterflies, and art. Thank you Mr. Ben for your wonderful photos of this day.

Health Room News
Medication pick-up & forms for next year:
If your student has medication in the health room, it must be picked up by an adult on the last day of school. If your student is leaving before Friday June 20th, please plan to pick up medication on their last day of attendance. Non-emergency medication may be picked up at any time.
All medication must be picked up by noon on June 20. After this time, it will be disposed of by district security. Please make every effort to pick up leftover meds, it is costly for the district to dispose of meds, we cannot just throw them in the trash.
Medication forms for next school year were sent via USPS at the end of May. New Medication Authorizations are required every school year. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Clothing:
Thank you so much to whoever ordered the underwear for the health room!! It is much appreciated!!
If your student has borrowed any clothes, please return these so we can maintain our supply for others to borrow.
**Note** Field Day on June 12th will involve a couple “water games”. Please pack extra clothes with your student if you think they may “choose” to get wet! Students will not be able to borrow clothes for this choice!
Also – please check the Lost & Found rack outside by the library or office, for anything your student may have lost. The rack is full of clothes!! If not picked up, these items will all be donated at the end of the year.
NSD Community Assistance Web Page:
If you need resources or assistance of any kind, please visit the NSD Community Resource page. Many organizations are ready to help with food, housing, healthcare and more.

School Nurse Substitutes Needed
Are you a Registered Nurse who might be interested in exploring the rewards of school based nursing, supplementing work hours or simply maintaining nursing licensure credentials? We would love to discuss available opportunities as a substitute school nurse with the Northshore School District -- this is a great way to transition into community nursing with K-12 school age children.

Summer Reading
On June 6, Jordan Sterland, KCLS Kenmore Youth Service Librarian, visited Arrowhead to share information about the KCLS Summer Reading Program. It’s a bit different this year. In order to get a paper tracker, you need to go into a library branch and sign up. The Beanstack app will be used for tracking if you do not go into the branch. Jordan will also be talking about fun books!
Ms. Ginny’s suggestions for summer reading will be published via ParentSquare.
No Book Swap This Year
You may remember our book swap last spring– we decided to wait a year to do it again. Our next big in-library event will be a Scholastic Book Fair in early December 2025!
Arrowhead Library is open each morning at 8:35 am! Stop by and start the day with reading and exploring the library!

Summer Technology News
Students will keep their devices this summer
Students currently in grades 2-11 will be keeping their assigned computing devices over the summer months to allow for continuous learning. Students and families are expected to take care of their assigned device by keeping it charged and in its bag when not in use. Students who are enrolled in summer learning programs are expected to bring their device to summer programs each day. If families need support using their device or troubleshooting technical issues, they should create a help ticket at http://go.nsd.org/studenttechhelp.
Here is a useful Chromebook Care guideline. To protect from charges for accidental damages, a Device Protection Plan is available for purchase.
Families may not need or want to take their student’s device home over the summer.
Families who wish to opt out of keeping their student’s assigned device will need to indicate that they are “opting out” by completing the form at https://go.nsd.org/optout .
This form will help our staff to plan efficiently for sending devices home for summer learning. When students return to school in the Fall, any student who does not have an assigned device will be assigned one for school year learning. Our school will be collecting devices on Monday and Tuesday, June 16 & 17.
Withdrawing and opting out students must turn in their devices by June 17, 2025
Families who are withdrawing from Northshore or are opting-out of summer usage, are expected to return any technology devices assigned to their student, including computers, tablets, hotspots and all accessories such as bags and chargers. Our school will be collecting devices on Monday and Tuesday, June 16 & 17. Withdrawing students who do not return their devices and accessories will be issued a fine for replacement.
Thank you, Volunteers!
We are so grateful to PTA and this amazing community for their support
A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who helped at Hawk Walk! Over 35 people shared their coolers, stamps, helped with set up, cheered on students, handed out otter pops, and helped clean up.
Recent PTA SEC grants included 1st grade KidsQuest Museum field trip, 2nd grade Woodland Park Zoo field trip, 4th grade Kenmore Lanes field trip, and 20 yearbooks for families in need.
WE are so blessed to have PTA and this community for our partners this year! PTA provided pizza and water for hungry Community Serve Day volunteers, hosted Kindergarten and all school play dates this summer and kicked off a great Welcome Back Event for families. They approved Fall Staff and classroom funds, SEC grants for multiple field trip entry fees, Art Docent training and support for art in every classroom, OT/PT handwriting supplies, teaching resources, student math materials for small groups, and more!
Field Trip and Classroom Volunteers
Our classes wouldn't be able to go on field trips without our numerous volunteers who chaperone students and assist school staff with small groups, projects and lead art docent lessons.
Library Volunteers
Our amazing Library volunteers keep our Library in top shape, checking books in and out, helping find that just right book, and assisting Ms. Ginny with special projects.
